    Save King George hospital

Plans have been announced that may result in King George hospital losing some or many of the services and facilities it provides currently. You can read more about the plans to downgrade services at King George Hospital and how they will affect people living in Ilford in my special report to constituents.

I have also raised the matter in Parliament. most recently in June 2011 -  details are available on Parliament's website - and previously in October 2010 and November 2009 (you can read the text of my speech on this website or watch the debate on-  the the BBC's Democracy Live website).

I was extremely pleased that Mike O'Brien, London Health Minister, called in the plans for independent review in March 2010. This was a great victory for residents and common sense.

I am also pleased that Andrew Lansely, the Secretary of State for Health, has doubts about the plans for King George Hospital and has asked the Independent Reconfiguration Panel (IRP) to look into these and report to him by  22 July. You can read my submission to the IRP at http://www.mikegapes.org.uk/submission-to-irp-on-king-george-hospital.

If you want to keep King George hospital, please register your support by completing the form below and write or email the IRP - a template letter can be downloaded from the Save King George Hospital website (look for the news items for April 2011 on the homepage).
