    Health debate

The Conservatives put down a motion on Healthcare in London today . This merely called for " a more effective public  consultation" on the "reconfiguration proposals across London" put forward by the NHS bureaucracy.  This did not go nearly far enough and is no guarantee that a Tory Government will save King George Hospital.

I therefore put an amendment. My amendment was  to delete reference to a further consultation.  It also  refers explicitly to saving the accident and emergency  “at King George Hospital Ilford, and calls for the Secretary of State for Health to refer the proposals for reconfiguration of services in Outer North east London to an independent review panel”. I also put down a further amendment to explicitly mention the maternity services  “including at King George Hospital Ilford”

Unfortunately the Speaker did not select my amendments for debate.

The amendment selected was by the government . It was in my opinion inadequate in that it also did not meet my concerns about my local hospital and referred in general terms to "full and formal public consultation" .  I therefore could not vote for either the Tory motion or the inadequate government amendment. I therefore abstained to register my protest. I am now seeking an urgent meeting with Health Ministers to press for an Independent review of the reconfiguration proposals for Outer North East London as called for in my amendments.
